Getting Started With Ancestry And The Family History Guide--Part 2

The Family History Guide Blog

Welcome back to Part 2 of our discovery of some basics in the Ancestry dropdown-menu on the Homepage of The Family History Guide. This is day two and we are looking at Project 1: Getting Started. Goal 2: Customize your profile and site settings. Choice A: Summary: In your profile, #1: change your name, display name, location or photo. #2: Update personal information. #3: Contact other members. There are 9 Steps to follow to get your information exactly how your want it in the settings of Ancestry. You will learn how to change the settings at any time with updates. This link gets you right to the information we'll be learning about today.

Every time I dive deeply into the Family History Guide I am astonished at how easy it makes learning exactly what we need to know to go forward.

Choice B: Change your account setting as needed. In the Homepage click on your name on the upper right corner. Follow the steps in The Family History Guide. This is where you can edit things like type of account you want, you can change your username and password, change you email address and learn how to sign in and out.

Choice C: Change Your Site Preferences as needed. In the Home Screen, Click on your name in the upper right hand corner and select Site Preferences. You can then select hint preferences, community preferences, choose your color scheme.

You can see how very compressive this section of the Family History Guide is and all you can learn with the step by step approach. What I like is that once you know where to find instructions on all of these things you know where to return when you may need them as time goes on.

Choice D: Email Alert Preference.
Choice E: Read and send Email in Ancestry
Choice F: Invite others to see your tree.

On these two posts (yesterday and today) about getting started in Ancestry I wanted to show the details that are available to each of us. I don't want to just delve into every aspect of this Getting Started Project, but rather my hope is to show you with these last 2 posts, exactly what you can expect in the way of this amazing learning tool. The Family History Guide has got us covered! My wish is that it will inspire you to want to see more by clicking on the direct link so you can see for yourself.

My next post on this will wrap up this part The Family History Guide in Ancestry's Project 1: Getting Started: Goal 3: Customize Your Homepage.

All we have discussed is all on the link above. I am definitely going to go through this project and track my progress though all of it making sure I have my Ancestry account exactly the way I want it. The hope is it will be just what you need to do as well.
